Dear NYUL Family,
Welcome to the Fall Edition of the NYUL newsletter. Whether we are highlighting a
partnership with one of our Bronx high schools, hosting our largest ever HBCU Fair or dedicating marathon proceeds to the Whitney M. Young, Jr scholarship, this edition is all about education.
The New York Urban League (NYUL) hosted its 35th Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Fair on November 12, 2022, at Riverbank State Park. The Fair opened with an engaging performance by Brooklyn United that brought students, parents and volunteers to their feet. The fair's unique opportunity allowed over 6,000 students the chance to gain early admissions to many highly competitive institutions.
Thank you to the incredible NYUL Team comprised of Ward Corbett, Bryant Fields, Raghu Hariharan, Mary Rice-Boothe and Casey Wagner who successfully ran the TCS NYC Marathon. They collectively raised over $12,000 and proceeds are dedicated towards our Whitney M. Young, Jr. Scholarship Initiative.
We are thrilled to share that we will release the second edition of our Holiday Gift Guide. NYUL’s 2022 Holiday Gift Guide entitled “GIFTED & Black” will feature a curated selection of makers, artisans, and food purveyors. Please make a commitment to perusing our guide for great gifts for the holiday season while supporting local entrepreneurs. The guide is being released in conjunction with NYUL partners Macy's and Paypal.
And lastly, please join us for Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday is a day of giving created in 2012, and has become a global philanthropic movement. Giving Tuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Our goal is to raise $35,000 specifically for the New York Urban League’s Empowerment Days. We hope that you will join us on November 29th.
I am so pleased and proud of the great work of the NYUL staff, Board of Directors and volunteers. We hope that you will keep reading our newsletter and participating in our efforts.
