April 2022 | Letter from NYUL President

Dear Friends of NYUL,

We are pleased to share with you this edition of our newsletter that highlights how NYUL continues to evolve our programs and services to meet current and emerging needs. Our Champions of Diversity Breakfast was extended to a half-day conference focused on critical diversity, equity and inclusion issues. Cutting edge DEI professionals challenged current thinking, provided success models, and honestly spoke about what paths need to be forged ahead to create affirming workplaces. Topics included The Great Resignation; Corporate Responsibility: Beyond Statements and Hashtags; and Leading While Black and Brown. Following the panels, we were thrilled to honor corporations with exemplary diversity practices. Congratulations to our honorees: Blackstone, Citi, Etsy, Momentive and two Rising Stars Tara Ataya of Hootsuite and Romola Ratnam of Endeavor, and thanks again to our jury for reviewing award nominations.

One of our newly created Diversity & Inclusion Brand Partners, Salesforce's affinity group BOLDForce is profiled for their partnership with our education initiatives. BOLDforce is a global community dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for Salesforce's Black employees. They also describe BOLDforce as a community of Equality trailblazers that shift the conversation from the 2% problem to the 2% power. SalesForce has powerfully worked with NYUL education initiatives including curating a series of workshops for our Whitney M. Young, Jr. Scholars and supported our Back-to-School Backpack Drive.

NYUL is fueled by the work of our hard-working staff and a host of volunteers. Our Board of Directors, chaired by Ward Corbett, sets the tone for an engaged group of New Yorkers who donate countless hours to help NYUL achieve its ambitious mission. In this quarter's newsletter we spotlight the volunteer that helps make sure others have positive volunteer experiences with NYUL. After years of service in leadership with our Young Professionals affinity group, Tashaka Wynter currently serves as Volunteer Coordinator.

And lastly, we are thrilled to share news of a generous gift of 1.7M received from Congressman Adriano Espaillat, 13th Congressional District, through federal funding made possible through the annual federal appropriations process for local community projects.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We hope you enjoy this update on our work.

Sincerely,

Arva Rice| President & CEO
