Welcome to the New York Urban League’s newly designed website. We hope that as you navigate these pages that the mission and work of the Urban League will come to life. Our work is best described in the stories of the people we have sent to college, New Yorkers who have found living wage jobs, young people who have discovered science, technology, engineering and math; and individual community members who found a way to make their collective voices heard.
Our stories are created – and told – at our signature events that range from our Football Classic to our black tie Frederick Douglass Dinner where we honor individuals and companies who embody the life work of the event’s namesake. We have told our stories for over 95 years and the story continues to evolve as we take on new issues, identify struggles and celebrate victories.
I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to thank the incredible staff at Deutsche lead by their dynamic CEO Val DeFibo, for this wonderful website. This site is a testament to one of the things NYUL does best – marshal corporate resources in service of community. This site is the result of the countless hours of energy that graphic designers, coders, programmers, editors donated to work with the NYUL staff to create this state of the art website. We are so grateful to Deutsch for their effort and incredible result.
The NYUL’s success is built on the relationships we have built with corporations, government and individual community members. Help us select our next class of Whitney M. Young, Jr. Scholars, introduce a group of youth to careers at our Empowerment Days, or donate your resources or talent to the Urban League. We hope that our stories encourage you to create some of your own.
