Program Manager

The Role

The Youth Program Manager will report to the Program Director and be responsible for the management of services supporting high school youth focused on mentoring, college, career, and life readiness initiatives. The Youth Program Manager will manage up to 60 high school participants in a year-round part-time program environment and will manage efforts focused on recruitment, enrollment and facilitation of programing activities. The Youth Program Manager is currently required to be onsite at least 2x a week in the high school en-vironment from 9:30am to 5:30pm.

The Youth Program Manager will support all education-related signature initiatives such as: MLK Day of Service, Wellness Summit, HBCU Fair, Empowerment Day, and College Tours. The Program Manager will supervise up to 2 individuals (staff or interns). Late night, weekend and/or overnight hours may be required to support programming activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Program Operations: Manage the day-to-day operations of the high school program portfolio engaging up to 50-60 high school program participants.

  • Staff Leadership & Supervision: Hire and supervise up to two staff members and/or interns as well as manage the mentoring relationship of up to 8 mentoring

  • pairs. Collaborate with the Program Director to ensure program quality, alignment with NYUL goals, and achievement of outcomes.

  • Partnership Management: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with schools, participants, guardians and community partners.

  • Outcomes & Reporting: Track programming milestones and develop monthly reports reflective of activities, partnerships, and progress.

  • Budget & Funding: Manage program OTPS lines and consult with the Program Director monthly to ensure appropriate spending.

  • Compliance & Accountability: Ensure confidentiality in all areas of responsibility and maintain very high standards for performance and accountability.

  • Agency Initiatives: Support organization-wide initiatives to promote collaboration, teamwork, and NYUL’s active presence in the NYC community.

What We're Looking For

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience in nonprofit, education, workforce or a related field and at least 1 year of supervisory experience.

  • Leadership & Management: Excellent leadership, time management, and emotional intelligence, with the proven ability to build, motivate, and coach staff and interns.

  • Project Management: Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize workload, and effectively manage partnerships and resources.

  • Diversity & Inclusion: Experience building trusting relationships with people from diverse socio-economic, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds; perspective on issues of diversity and inclusion.

  • Skills: Strong analytical and communication skills (written and verbal) and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology.

  • Characteristics: Demonstrated track record of effective problem-solving and decision-making; a relentless pursuit of results.

  • Travel: Ability to work outdoors and travel throughout NYC as well as attend evening and/or weekend events.
