Whitney M. Young, Jr. was the Executive Director of the National Urban League from 1961-1971. Throughout his leadership of the National Urban League, Young focused on gaining equality for African-Americans in business and politics, and improving opportunities for the urban poor. The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Scholarship of $3,500, is an award that memorializes Young’s commitment to educational equity for young people. Each year, awards ranging between $1,500-$3,500, are given to exceptional high school seniors throughout the city.
