College LIVE! Howard University Tour
Our first College Live! trip to Howard University was a huge success! We took 47 students and 5 chaperones to Howard University, where they gained valuable information about the schools, majors and various programs Howard University has to offer. Students were required to attend a mandatory pre-tour workshop at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, facilitated by Dr. Stacy Grant @destinydesignu on Saturday, September 19, 2015. Dr. Grant provided valuable information including proper attire and interviews. Howard Alumni also came out to represent and share their experience and journey to and through college.
Thursday, September 24, 2015 students, staff and chaperones boarded the bus to Howard University bright and early. When they arrived they were met by 2 enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly student ambassadors who lead them around campus, and answered specific questions about financial aid, scholarships, SAT scores and required GPA’s.
This trip allowed all of our participants to get a first-hand look at a campus. Many of them are interested in attending Howard University. After our visit, several students shared that they would definitely apply to attend Howard University, and how being on campus was beneficial in their decision making. This experience also gave the students a better idea if this school would be the right fit for their major, interest and overall expectations. They also love the campus cafeteria!
These opportunities have given our students a chance to turn their vision of attending a college into a reality. Now they can really visualize themselves on campus.
Special thanks to Macy’s #Macysculture for helping to make this possible.
