The College Live! Program through the New York Urban League’s (NYUL) Absolute Success College Access Program (ASCAP) will provide post-secondary college experiences through on-day all-expense-paid college and university campus visits and college fair experiences increasing the opportunity for small group encounters with school recruiters and financial aid officers. The importance of visiting college campuses cannot be over emphasized. Brochures, catalogs, presentations by college representatives, guidance counselors and videos can help to form an opinion of a school life, but a visit allows students and parents to see firsthand the environment and evaluate the academics, athletics, housing, and the social life of schools. Seeing for themselves offers the best insight of all.
The second component of College Live! will be the college readiness workshops. Through NYUL’s College Club, we will provide concentrated preparation workshops covering the basics for the college application process, financial aid and admissions. Macy’s representatives will also share valuable information providing fashion tips for students to be dressed for success. ASCAP staff will also review with parents and students the key elements of getting the most out of the college trips.
Trips & Workshops
The College Live! program will minimally offer three (3) college visit opportunities starting Fall 2015 through Spring 2017. Our goal is to provide under-served New York City high school students access to post-secondary opportunities. Each trip will serve between 40-50 selected students from the five boroughs.
All of the one-day college trips will include all-expense-paid round-trip travel and meals, college information sessions, campus tours and opportunities to speak with current and former students.
NYUL will provide all of the chaperones for all scheduled trips, which include NYUL staff and members of our Young Professionals organization. We expect all selected participants to abide by NYUL’s code of conduct, attend all required workshops, and submit requested forms.
Upon selection to attend the trip, participants will receive a detailed itinerary, consent forms and workshop location for their selected trip.
