Giving Tuesday

What is Giving Tuesday?

Following Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, we have Giving Tuesday–a global day of giving. Charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

The New York Urban League (NYUL) is launching The Racial Justice Fund (RJF) this #GivingTuesday.  Proceeds from the RJF will help support the work that we at NYUL are already doing such as our HBCU Fair which brought the community together four days after the election. NYUL will promote ways to demand change in our local governments as well as in our economy. The RJF will help New York Urban League provide the most effective ways to ensure bright futures for all.

Here’s how you can participate:

Step 1: #Give

Make a tax deductible contribution that supports the work of the New York Urban League.

More About What You're Supporting

Continuing What NYUL Does Best: Four days after the election that has spurred an increase in hate crimes and general unrest, we held our 30th Annual Historically Black College and University Fair. Students from the five boroughs as well as across the Tri-State area came to meet with college admissions officers of highly ranked universities from across the country. Students were able to receive admissions and scholarships on the spot from colleges such as… [enter schools that students got admittance to] With over 3,200 students in attendance (some under the age of 15) the fair provided resources for students to use to further their educational careers and equip our future politicians, doctors and lawyers with all the tools needed to thrive. In addition to our college fair, New York Urban League also provides resources for those looking for work. On a daily basis, we open a computer lab to those in search of work. In addition to our computer lab, we also provide job workshops where resume building, networking and interviewing skills are taught to ensure job placement success. The Racial Justice Fund will continue to get students to and through college as well as assist in the job placement process.

Make Change: New York Urban League is constantly providing opportunities to get involved improving the community from hosting forums and workshops on police-community relations to hosting conferences on the State of Young Black New York.  As New York City has a mayoral race in the next year and Governor’s races in 2018, it is vital that our leaders are placing high importance on issues of concern such as education, housing and homelessness. Through the Racial Justice Fund NYUL will bring together thought leaders and activists working on political mobilization, economic efforts such as boycotts, buy black or felon disfranchisement campaigns.  Attendees can then select the action they want to take going forward.  With proceeds from the Racial Justice Fund, NYUL hopes to continue providing resources that will make our communities stronger. Together we can all contribute to empowering communities and changing lives and together we will work to protect our social, civil and political rights
