2023 CCNSF | NYUL Award Recipients Are Announced

In 2014, the Hispanic Federation (HF), Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF), New York Urban League (NYUL), and Asian American Federation (AAF) formed an alliance to provide capacity-building support to Black, Latino, and Asian-led community-based organizations (CBOs) throughout New York City’s five boroughs.

As a result, the New York City Council allocated $2.5 million to establish the Communities of Color Nonprofit Stabilization Fund (CCNSF). This initiative has supported 634 capacity-building projects for nonprofit organizations to date. This year the New York City Council has allocated $3.755 million to support this endeavor, of which NYUL has been awarded $1.3 million. Oversight of the funding is provided by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).

For the ninth consecutive year, the New York Urban League is committed to co-administering the Communities of Color Nonprofit Stabilization Fund (CCNSF) providing awards to nonprofits across the five boroughs. Specifically, NYUL selected organizations that either primarily served a majority of African Americans as their constituency or had a 51% minority leadership as part of their board/executive staff.

To date NYUL has served approximately 463 organizations, which addressed the need for capacity-building funding for nonprofit organizations in communities of color. The monies have had a considerable impact on the sustainability, growth and prosperity of many organizations providing crucial services to the most vulnerable communities in New York City.

This year, 27 community-based organizations throughout New York City will receive transformative grants to support and create critical functions, provide economic stimuli and capacity building support. These CBOs offer a varying array of services to New Yorkers and are being funded to address a variety of infrastructural needs including leadership development, financial management, and outcomes system development, among others. These grants will also provide resources to build the capacity and long-term sustainability of both new and established organizations of color.
