is one of the New York Urban League Young Professional's signature fundraising events held annually, paying homage to the legacy of the Harlem Renaissance Era. The Harlem Renaissance was a time when African-American dreams started to become reality. It marked the first time that mainstream publishers and critics took African American literature seriously and that African American literature, art, and creative professionals attracted significant attention from the nation as a whole. In honoring the essence and sophistication of African-American culture, Rebirth! has been designed to stimulate your 5 senses while navigating you through the experience.
For this year's event, Rebirth! 2008: "Homage to Black Cinema" is an evening of independent film, art, music and culture inspired by the young influential African Americans that gave birth to the Harlem Renaissance, as well as a celebration of this cultural revival that continues to appear in the New York City community today. Held on March 29, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the showroom of Helen Mills Studio (135 W. 26th Street, NYC), this elegant evening will appeal to the five senses by offering a independent short film showcase featuring several emerging filmmakers (sight), musical mood provided by DJ Herbert H. Holler from the infamous Freedom Party (sound), an array of exquisite hors d'oeuvres and complimentary cocktails provided by Moet Hennessy (smell / taste), and an amazing setting that will encourage networking and mingling (touch).
