Program Coordinator – College Adult Learning Center

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Coordinator will be responsible for providing oversight and leadership development to peer mentors, facilitating career awareness and college readiness preparation for enrolled GED students, and building stronger pathways from GED to post-secondary education.

 

Duties include, but not limited to:

•Work closely with Adult Learning Center Director and staff to expand the size and scope of adult education programming to include peer mentoring and tutorial, college preparation, and a student alumni network.
•Recruit, train, and supervise peer mentors. Support mentors in providing case management and academic advisement both in GED and college classes.
•Facilitate activities that foster community building and develop leadership skills among peer mentors and GED alumni network members.
•Work with GED instructors to track students’ progress and assist in resolving issues and barriers that impact student retention and goal attainment.
•Provide orientation and periodic workshops that train students in various life skills, college readiness competencies, and retention strategies.
•Develop and facilitate support services, presentations, and student workshops that focus on a number of areas that include, but are not limited to: college admissions, career exploration and planning, career aptitude and self-assessment, etc.
•Develop partnerships with key college personnel/ departments including, but not limited to, Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advisement, Student Services, Counseling, etc.
•Act as a liaison between students and college personnel. Work together to resolve issues, coordinate services, and minimize barriers encountered during students’ transition to post-secondary education.
•Maintain student resource library with up-to-date career and post-secondary education information.
•Develop and facilitate opportunities for students to participate in community service activities.
•Follow-up on students’ progress in GED program, GED diploma attainment, college entrance, and college retention.
•Compile and maintain student database.
•Meet regularly with ALC Director to assess program, peer mentors, and achievement of program goals. Devise plan for on-going evaluation and program improvement strategies.
•Prepare program reports.
•Work with College’s technical assistance support staff and attend professional development and training sessions

Minimum Qualifications:
•Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years work experience in Counseling, Social Work or related field. (Candidates with a GED diploma highly desirable)
•Strong written and oral communication skills.
•Experience working in teams and organizing and supervising others.
•Demonstrated experience running workshops and group sessions.
•Ability to convey complex concepts to a number of different audiences in a clear and simple manner.
•Ability to meet deadlines with changing priorities and respond to challenges and emergencies.
•Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Publisher) and Internet. Ability to devise innovative use of technology.
Ability to participate in on-going professional development and attend various program-related meetings.
Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.

 Salary:
$38,000 - $42,000 (based on experience and qualifications)
